Straightforward options, clear scheduling, and tidy installs are frequent themes in recent feedback. Recent reviews highlight clean, professional installations and good communication from both office and field staff. Many customers mention competitive pricing for HRVs and mini-splits, along with tidy routing and minimal impact on interiors. There are also notes of responsive service to Avalon outport locations. A minority review cites delays and limited updates during a parts-order repair, indicating room to improve follow-up during extended lead times.
We recently had a repair completed on our Goodman heat pump where the defrost sensor and control board were replaced. The technician was polite and the unit is now functioning, but the overall experience and professionalism were very disappointing. The initial assessment was done on January 2, and we were told parts needed to be ordered. We then waited approximately six weeks for the repair to be completed. During that time, we asked for the part information so we could potentially source the parts ourselves to speed things up, but the company refused to provide any details. When the repair was finally approved, we were told it “wouldn’t cost much,” and no quote, labour rate, or installation fee was disclosed in advance. We did not sign any work order or receive any written estimate outlining costs. After the repair was completed, a $200 installation/labour charge was added to the invoice without prior disclosure. When we requested an itemized breakdown and clarification, the company refused to provide a detailed invoice. We also spoke directly with the owner, who was unable to provide a clear or predetermined explanation for how the $200 charge was calculated and indicated it was essentially applied after the fact.Despite these concerns, we paid the full invoice in good faith to resolve the matter. The repair itself was completed, but the lack of transparency, refusal to provide part information during the delay, absence of upfront pricing, and unwillingness to itemize charges reflect a concerning level of professionalism. We strongly recommend that homeowners request a written quote, full cost breakdown, and documented parts information before approving any repair work.
If you need a new HRV or equivalent, this is the place to call! After doing research and even attempting my own "Repairs", Affordable Comfort HVAC came in with not only the best price, but prompt proffessional service! Very clean work and quality equipment. I would highly recommend!
This company is fantastic! My home is downtown, and installing mini-splits in older houses like mine can be tricky. Their team gave me great advice and handled everything perfectly. Now I have two wonderful mini-splits that work beautifully, and at the best price in St John's. Everyone was professional, kind, and careful with my home. They minimized the number of holes and made sure the wiring didn’t affect the look of my space. I couldn’t be happier with the results! I recommend 100%
Fast and efficient service at a reasonable price. It's not always easy to get service in an Avalon outport location. No hesitation from this company and no extra service charges. Andrew, Kyle and the rest of the team are knowledgeable and professional. Thanks for a great mini split repair and HVAC unit replacement.
Affordable HVAC was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Jordan, his team, and the other staff were great communicators, hard workers, and clearly know what they’re doing when it comes to HVAC. The installation was done super clean, and they were in and out in a day. (The oil furnace was removed the day before, so two days total for the heat source swap, which I had agreed to.)As part of the central heat pump install, I needed a service upgrade, which was subcontracted to Island Pro Electrical, one of two companies who quoted the job for Jordan. At first, I had no issues with that. But from the day the heat pump went in to the day the electrical was finally signed off took 7 weeks. That wasn’t due to the scope of work, it was entirely due to Island Pro Electrical being repeatedly late, unprepared, and failing to meet basic code requirements. I’m not an electrician, but I’ve studied Canadian electrical code as a hobby, and I noticed red flags almost immediately. I brought up multiple code concerns, which they dismissed as unnecessary or not part of the quote.I agreed to wait for the inspection, and the Service NL inspector failed the job twice before finally approving it, with most (but not all) of the issues I originally flagged being corrected. Some of the things I mentioned weren’t applicable in the end (more relevant to new builds), but most of it was legitimate.Across those 7 weeks, there were maybe 3 full days of work done total, not consecutive, and most of those were just partial days. I’ve had full electrical panels and service upgrades done in other homes in under two days, with way more work involved. The difference in quality and professionalism between Affordable HVAC and Island Pro Electrical was night and day. I’d recommend Affordable HVAC ten times out of ten, but I’d seriously reconsider any job where Island Pro Electrical is involved.
